The 2008 US PGA Championship is the last major golf tournament of the season, and it looks like it will be a hard-fought golf tournament among the PGA Tour golfers. Just to recap the big winners of the grand slam tournaments this season -
Trevor Immelman won the 2008 Masters,
Tiger Woods won the 2008 US Open, and
Padraig Harrington won the 2008 Open Championship, or what was formerly known as the British Open.
Now, the next major golf tournament in the PGA Tour is the 2008 PGA Championship, which will be played on August 7 to 10, 2008 at the Oaklnad Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michingan. The odds on who will be the outright winner of the 2008 US PGA Championship are as follows:
There are still more odds listed for most participating PGA golfers, but the odd thing about the odds (pardon the pun) is that there is no sighting of Tiger Woods. The tiger may be an extinct animal, but where in the world is Tiger Woods, and why is he not included in the odds of the 2008 PGA Championship? After all, Tiger Woods was the winner of the 2007 PGA Championship, and many would be expecting him to be around to defend his title.
Well, Tiger Woods is out for the season after going through knee surgery. At present, Tiger Woods is reported to be around 12 pounds lighter, and walking around with a limp. Doctors have given Tiger Woods around 6 months of therapy and rehabilitation before he can get back to playing on the PGA Tour.
In any case, a major golf tournament without Tiger Woods means that the odds are open for everyone to win. Well, at least the field of PGA Tour golfers won’t have to keep looking over their shoulder to watch out for Tiger Woods.

KJ Choi of South Korea played a very impressive golf game on the second round of the 2008 British Open to put him on top of the British Open leaderboard, followed closely behind by Greg Norman of Australia.
KJ Choi sits at one-under for the 2008 British Open, and is the only golfer to break par. Greg Norman sits at an even par after two rounds while trailing closely is Camillo Villegas of Colombia with one-over par, who shot a second round best 65 to move him up the leaderboard. After Camillo Villegas, seven other golfers are on a tie for fourth place and are within striking distance for the topspot. Among the seven golfers are the likes of David Duval, Padraig Harrington, Jim Furyk, Rocco Mediate and Robert Allenby.
KJ Choi is expected to keep the pace in the third round in order to win the 2008 British Open, or what is now referred to as the 2008 Open Championship.

Tiger Woods won an 18-hole playoff against Rocco Mediate in order to capture the 2008 US Open Golf Championship title, making it his third US Open title and his 14th major championship title, just 4 shy of tying the record of Jack Nicklaus.
Also, Tiger Woods extends his lead in the FedEx Cup standings with a total of 22,695 points after participating in 6 events. Phil Mickelson is at number 2 in the FedEx Cup Standings with 15,940 points after participating in 14 events.
Tiger Woods will be looking forward to the next golf major with the British Open Championship set to be played on July 2008. The 2008 British Open Championship will be played at the Royal Birkdale Golf Course in Lancashire, England.
Prior to that, Tiger Woods might also play at the 2008 Buick Open, the AT&T National or the John Deere Classic.

After four rounds of US Open Golf at Torrey Pines,
Rocco Mediate and
Tiger Woods have tied at the top of the leaderboard in order to force an 18-hole playoff to shoot for the
2008 US Open Golf Championship.
Lee Westwood led the pack going into the 4th round, but missed the chance to force a playoff with Rocco Mediate when he missed a birdie putt in the 18th hole. Rocco Mediate shot a fourth round 71 to move him up to the top of the leaderboard with 1-under, waiting for the outcome of the final pair of Lee Westwood and Tiger Woods to finish. While Lee Westwood missed his chance, Tiger Woods didn’t make a mistake in sinking his birdie putt on the 18th hole in order to force an 18-hole playoff with Rocco Mediate.
So, tomorrow, it’s Tiger Woods vs Rocco Mediate in an 18-hole playoff with the winner to become the champion of the 2008 US Open Golf Championship.

World No. 1 golfer
Tiger Woods is the favorite to win the upcoming
2008 US Open Golf Championship to be held at the Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California this coming June 12 to June 15, 2008, but then other golfers seem to be stepping up their game to “tame the Tiger.”
Currently, Tiger Woods is leading the FedExCup Standings with a total of 17,745 points after only playing in 5 events while other like 2nd placer Phil Mickelson and 3rd placer Ryuji Imada are behind Tiger Woods even after participating in over 12 events. Definitely, that says something about the greatness of Tiger Woods, who can amass a great number of FedExCup points despite playing in just a few tournaments.
However, the 2008 US Open Golf Championship is a different monster altogether. Among the favorites to win the 2008 US Open Golf Championship (apart from Tiger Woods) also include 2007 US Open Champion Angel Cabrera, 2006 US Open Champion Geoff Ogilvy, 2004 and 2001 US Open Champion Retief Goosen, 2003 US Open Champion Jim Furyk and even 1997 and 1994 US Open Champion Ernie Els. Of course, these goflers have some historic success to back up their campaign for a 2008 US Open Golf Championship title.
And then, there are also the golfers who have been consistent and in some sort of streak in recent PGA Tour tournaments, such as Memorial Tournament champion Kenny Perry, THE PLAYERS champion Sergio Garcia, 2008 Masters Tournament champion Trevor Immelman and also Phil Mickelson, who bagged the 2008 Northern Trust Open and the 2008 Crowne Plaza Invitational.
Of course, the big monster that all golfers have to overcome for the US Open Golf Championship will be the golf course at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California. In the 2008 Buick Invitational held at Torrey Pines earlier this year, it was Tiger Woods who emerged victorious, leading the rest of the pack by 8 strokes. Ryuji Imada came in a distant second, and other golfers like Rory Sabbatini, Stewart Cink and Justin Leonard made up the top five.
Actually, the Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, San Diego, California is the home of the Buick Invitational, and Tiger Woods has won the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines an astonishing 6 times! Tiger Woods has been victorious at Torrey Pines in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 for the Buick Invitational. In fact, Tiger Woods also holds the tournament record score of 22-under-par. Earlier this year, Tiger Woods shot a tournament score of 19-under-par.
If Tiger Woods is that dominant in Torrey Pines, then it’s a no-brainer to conclude that Tiger Woods could be the champion in this coming 2008 US Open Golf Championship!

World No. 1 woman’s golfer
Lorena Ochoa of Mexico is on a tear. Lorena Ochoa has in fact won 6 of the 12 LPGA tour events this 2008, and is truly showing why she is the number one woman golfer in the world.
Former world no. 1 Annika Sorenstam of Sweden would’ve given Lorena Ochoa some stiff competition, but Annika Sorenstam has already announced her retirement from the sport of golf in order to focus on her personal life. Besides, Annika Sorenstam has had a constant battle with back pains that kept her away from the LPGA Tour last year.
Of course, there are still other golfers who will pose a threat to the reign of Lorena Ochoa, such as Paula Creamer, Yani Tseng and Jeong Jang, who are some of the top 3 points earners for the LPGA Playoffs, which will culminate at the ADT Championship.
However, if you want to bet on golf, then your best bet would be to wager on Lorena Ochoa as her consistency and dominance in the LPGA Tour will certainly bring a sure profit.
The next golf tournament on the LPGA Tour will be the 2008 Corning Classic, where Lorena Ochoa will be expected to compete against the top 32 woman golfers. Certainly, Lorena Ochoa is a favorite to win the event, especially after winning the recent LPGA Sybase Classic.

From the first round until the final round South African golfer Trevor Immelman was at the top of the leaderboard, and kept his name up there until the final stroke to win the 2008 Masters Tournament and get a coveted green jacket.
Trevor Immelman finished the tournament with an 8-under par. His nearest competitor in second was Tiger Woods who surged a late rally in the fourth round, but eventually only managed a 5-under in second place. Trevor Immelman’s flight mate Brandt Snedeker finished in a tie for third with Stewart Cink, both shooting a total of 4-under. Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington finished in a fifth-place tie with 2-under.
The next Grand Slam golf tournament will be the 2008 US Open Championship in June 2008 at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour still continues with several upcoming tournaments and FedEx Cup points to play for.
