Spanish La Liga champions Real Madrid are looking to be on target for their 31st Spanish La Liga title, and their second consecutive championship following last year’s success. Real Madrid currently are at the top of the Spanish La Liga standings with 66 points, and their nearest contenders are FC Barcelona and Villareal, who are 7 points behind with 59 points each.
With less than 2 months of fixtures left in the 2007-08 Spanish La Liga season, it seems that Real Madrid’s lead looks insurmountable. Barcelona and Villareal have to focus on their remaining games and hope that Real Madrid don’t gain any more points to extend their lead even more.
Barcelona may have a tough time gaining ground on Real Madrid, as Barcelona will have to divide their attention by focusing on the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League where they will face English Premier League Champions Manchester United. Real Madrid, who were eliminated from the Champions League tournament, just have the Spanish La Liga title to chase for, and they’ll have more rest time to recover than Barcelona, who have a hectic schedule ahead of them.
Villareal, on the other hand, just have to keep playing their best and hopefully get the results they desire in order to close the gap with Real Madrid and maybe even walk away with the Spanish La Liga championship.
In the meantime, it’s one match at a time.

Spanish La Liga champions Real Madrid failed to win at Riazor, the home pitch of Deportivo La Coruna. In fact, Real Madrid has not won in the Deportivo stadium in the last 17 seasons. Perhaps, Real Madrid are cursed at this particular place.
In any case, Deportivo were able to walk away with a 1-0 victory against Real Madrid, with Real Madrid’s Pepe scoring an own goal. Indeed, very disappointing for Real Madrid who are currently at the top of the Spanish La Liga standings with 62 points.
Barcelona, who are on the second spot of the Spanish La Liga standings with 54 points, might be able to close the gap if they book a win against Almeria on Sunday.
