Rafael Nadal of Spain defeated Roger Federer in straight sets during the finals of the 2008 French Open Men’s Singles. Roger Federer was the No. 1 seed of the 2008 French Open, but it was Rafael Nadal who was heavily favored to win the finals. Rafael Nadal did not disappoint the oddsmakers, who certainly saw that Rafael Nadal was on the top of his game after cruising in the semifinals against 2008 Australian Open champion and No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic. Roger Federer had a shaky semi-finals victory, and perhaps that also took its toll when Roger Federer faced Rafael Nadal in the finals.
The victory in the 2008 French Open is Rafael Nadal’s 4th consecutive French Open title.
The next tennis Grand Slam tournament will be the 2008 Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Tournament, which will take place in Wimbledon, England, this coming June 2008 until July 2008. Rafael Nadal will be hoping to continue his success on the grass courts, and hopefully bag the 2008 Wimbledon title, and maybe even take over the World No. 1 title currently being held by Roger Federer.

World No.1 men’s tennis player
Roger Federer of Switzerland will be going up against World No. 2
Rafael Nadal of Spain in the Men’s Singles Finals of the 2008 French Open.
A quick look at the statistics between Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal shows that Roger Federer is 6-10 overall against Rafael Nada, including 1-8 when playing on clay surfaces, and the big statistic is that Roger Federer is 0-3 at the French Open, where they also met in the 2005 French Open Semi-finals.
Rafael Nadal has not lost at all in the French Open and has an impressive 27-0 record overall. In fact, oddsmakers are putting down Rafael Nadal as the favorite to win against Roger Federer even if Roger Federer is ranked World No. 1, and is the tournament number one seed. Perhaps, there’s a lot of history to back up the performance of Rafael Nadal in the French Open, and the odds based on history do indeed favor Rafael Nadal winning over Roger Federer in the 2008 French Open Men’s Singles Finals.
In this year’s 2008 French Open semifinals, Rafael Nadal booked a very convincing straight sets victory over No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia. Meanwhile, Roger Federer looked a bit shaky against 59th seed Gael Monfils of France, who played in his first ever major semifinal. Roger Federer managed to beat Gael Monfils in 4 sets despite the home court French crowd rooting Monfils on.
In any case, it’s a classic showdown between No.1 vs No. 2 at the Men’s Singles Finals of the 2008 French Open - Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal.

2008 French Open No. 2 seed
Ana Ivanovic of Serbia will be facing No. 13 seed
Dinara Safina of Russia in the finals of the 2008 French Open Women’s Singles tournament.
Ana Ivanovic beat outNo.3 seed fellow Serbian Jelena Jankovic 2 sets to 1 in the 2008 French Open Semifinals in order to advance to the finals. Meanwhile, Dinara Safina continued her fairy-tale French Open by defeating fellow Russian No. 4 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets during their semifinal match. Dinara Safina was also responsible for ousting No. 1 seed Maria Sharapova in the fourth round, and also dethroning Maria Sharapova as the World’s No. 1 women’s tennis player. Instead, Ana Ivanovic will be ranked as the new World No. 1 in women’s tennis, considering that Ana Ivanovic bested Jelena Jankovic, who was hoping to gain the world no. 1 title had Jelena Jankovic won against Ana Ivanovic.
Ana Ivanovic is a strong favorite to win against Dinara Safina in the 2008 French Open Women’s Singles Finals, but of course, Dinara Safina will be bringing her best tennis game on center court against Ana Ivanovic - the same game that saw Dinara Safina upset the likes of Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

After Justine Henin of Belgium retitred earlier this year, Maria Sharapova of Russia jumped to the World No. 1 ranking in women’s tennis, a position that she had held some time ago. However, Maria Sharapova’s 4th round loss to No. 13 seed fellow-Russian Dinara Safina in the 2008 French Open will mean that Maria Sharapova will have to give up her World No. 1 ranking.
Jumping in to become the World No. 1 in women’s tennis will be either No. 2 ranked Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, No. 3 ranked Jelena Jankovic of Serbia, or No. 4 ranked Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia. The result will depend on who will be the winner of the 2008 French Open, or who else will be the better performer. The results will be released on Monday June 9, 2008, following the results of the French Open.
As of press time, Jelena Jankovic will be going up against Ana Ivanovic in the 2008 French Open Women’s Singles Semi-finals while Svetlana Kuznetsova will be hoping to advance to the French Open Semifinals following a quarterfinal match against unseeded Kaia Kanepi of Estonia. No. 13 seed Dinara Safina will also hope to continue her magnificent run after defeating Maria Sharapova when she faces fellow Russian and No. 7 seed Elena Dementieva in the quarterfinals.

World No. 1 men’s tennis player Roger Federer of Switzerland is looking on track for a trip to the 2008 French Open Men’s Finals and is set to play on the third round against Mario Ancic of Croatia.
Meanwhile, World No. 2 Rafael Nadal of Spain may have won his French Open third round match against Jarkko Nieminem of Finland in straight sets, but Rafa Nadal did require some medical treatment on some nasty blisters on his foot. With still a lot of tennis to be played before reaching the finals, it may not be certain if Rafael Nadal will even be fit enough to withstand blisters. After all, blisters need time to heal, and the tennis matches going to the finals will just get harder and harder, and eventually those matches in the French Open will take their toll on the feet of Rafael Nadal. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Rafael Nadal might retire in one of his upcoming matches. Maybe Rafael Nadal might even retire in his French Open Quarterfinal match against fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.
Looking sharp, howevrer, is No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia, who is looking to win his 2nd Grand Slam Tournament this year after successfully winning the 2008 Australian Open. Novak Djokovic will have to get past Paul-Henri Mathieu of France in the French Open Men’s Quarterfinals. Definitely, Paul-Henri Mathieu will have the home support of the French crowd which will make it difficult for Novak Djokovic.

Russian tennis player
Maria Sharapova won the first tennis grand slam tournament of the year when she won the
2008 Australian Open at the start of the year. Since then, Maria Sharapova has been able to bag a few more tournaments, and she has been given the Number 1 seed entering the 2008 French Open.
With world no. 1 Justine Henin announcing her retirement, the field for women’s tennis has opened up and the stage is set to crown a new number one. Of course, Maria Sharapova has been the world no. 1 once before, and she looks to be on track to regain her status as the top women’s singles tennis player, especially with a huge victory at the 2008 French Open.
Of course, while Maria Sharapova may be the number one seed to win the 2008 French Open Women’s Singles, she will still face heavy competition from the likes of Ana Ivanovic, Serena Williams, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Jelena Jankovic, who are among the top 5 seeds of the 2008 French Open.

Russian tennis star
Maria Sharapova defeated
Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia in the finals of the 2008 Bausch & Lomb championships 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 to become the 2008 Bausch & Lomb Champion in Amelia Island, Florida. It was the first time that Maria Sharapova has ever won a clay court title, and hopefully it won’t be the last. Definitely, a win on the clay court should boost Maria Sharapova’s confidence as she prepares for the upcoming 2008 French Open which will be played on a clay surface.
Despite the loss, 34th seed Dominika Cibulkova did well on her debut in the WTA Tour, beating out No. 2 seed Anna Chakvetadze, 11th seed Amelie Mauresmo and 14th seed Victoria Azarenka en route to her final showdown with Maria Sharapova. Too bad she couldn’t cap off her fairy-tale run against Maria Sharapova. Nevertheless, it shouldn’t be the last time we’ll here from Dominika Cibulkova, who debuts in the WTA Tour with an appearance in the finals of the 2008 Bausch & Lomb Championships.
The upcoming tournament for the WTA Tour is the 2008 Family Circle Cup to be played in Charleston, South Carolina.
