From the first round until the final round South African golfer Trevor Immelman was at the top of the leaderboard, and kept his name up there until the final stroke to win the 2008 Masters Tournament and get a coveted green jacket.
Trevor Immelman finished the tournament with an 8-under par. His nearest competitor in second was Tiger Woods who surged a late rally in the fourth round, but eventually only managed a 5-under in second place. Trevor Immelman’s flight mate Brandt Snedeker finished in a tie for third with Stewart Cink, both shooting a total of 4-under. Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington finished in a fifth-place tie with 2-under.
The next Grand Slam golf tournament will be the 2008 US Open Championship in June 2008 at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour still continues with several upcoming tournaments and FedEx Cup points to play for.

The top golfers of the world are gathered at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia for a chance to play in the 2008 Masters Tournament and win a coveted green jacket. Well, it’s not much the green jacket, which really clashes with most wardrobe combinations, but then it’s the prestige, the honor and a piece of history that everyone craves. Plus, the Masters Tournament is one of the Grand Slam tournaments in the sport of golf, and to win the Masters Tournament is indeed a highlight to any golfer’s career.
Tiger Woods, the world’s no. 1 golfer, is favored to win the tournament, but Tiger Woods‘ opening round of 72 just kept him at par with the course, and still four strokes away from first round 2008 Masters leaders Justin Rose of England and Trevor Immelman of South Afric. Justin Rose and Trevor Immelman opened the first round of the 2008 Masters with a top score of 68, 4-under-par, to put their names on top of the leaderboard and on target to win the 2008 Masters and that coveted green jacket.
Other fine performances in the 2008 Masters include those of Brian Bateman, Brandt Snedeker and Lee Westwood, who all shot an opening round of 69. Jim Furyk, Ian Poulter, Robert Karlsson and 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson hit an opening round of 70, putting them two strokes behind leaders Justin Rose and Trevor Immelan.Incidentally, it was Ian Poulter who hit the shot of the day on the first round of the 2008 Masters with a hole-in-one in Hole No. 16.
In any case, the second round will see if there will be changes made on the leaderboard, and maybe we might even find world no. 1 Tiger Woods making his way up to the top as well as the likes of Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh, who both also opened up with par 72 to keep at pace with Tiger Woods.

Even though Tiger Woods did not win the recent WGC-CA Championship in Doral, Flroida, losing 2 strokes behind tournament champion Geoff Ogilvy, Tiger Woods is still a huge favorite to win the upcoming 2008 Masters Tournament this coming April 2008. After all, Tiger Woods is on a hot streak and seems just invincible in the golf course, winning 5 tournaments out of the 6 he’s played so far. Definitely, such consistency makes Tiger Woods a sure favorite to win the 2008 Masters Tournament, which will be held at the Augusta National Golf Course in Augusta, Georgia.
2007 Masters Open champion Zach Johnson will be hoping to defend his title against a charging Tiger Woods, and of course against a field of great golfers, which will include the likes of Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh.
However, of course, Tiger Woods will certainly be a handful to deal with already as he looks to bag the first Major Tournament of 2008.

The campaign of American golfer
Tiger Woods for the 2008 PGA Tour is on a perfect start. Just a few weeks ago, Tiger Woods played in his first tournament of the 2008 PGA Tour, and won the 2008 Buick Invivational. And just over the weekend, Tiger Woods played in his 2nd tournament of 2008 and won the 2008 Dubai Desert Classic (not a PGA Tour event), bringing him to a perfect start of 2-of-2 in tournaments and championships. Undoubtedly, the world’s number 1 golfer is on a hot streak, and surpasses the record of Arnold Palmer in most tournament wins.
With this top form, Tiger Woods looks like he might be set to win a Grand Slam, which means to win the Masters, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship in the same year.
We know it’s been predicted and said before, but with a roaring start to 2008 as Tiger Woods has had, this time it looks more seriously possible. In fact, it’s so serious, there’s even a bet on how many Majors will Tiger Woods win in 2008.
Odds on how many Majors will Tiger Woods win in 2008:
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods has not confirmed his participation in the upcoming 2008 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, which is the next stop of the 2008 PGA Tour. The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tees off on February 7 up to February 10 at Pebble Beach, California.
