College basketball’s best rivalry resumes on Wednesday as #3 North Carolina hosts #2 Duke. Each team has only one loss and the game is the biggest so far of the college basketball season.
North Carolina Tar Heels was expected to be excellent but Duke’s play has been a surprise. A big key to Wednesday’s game could be the healthy of North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson. He wasn’t able to do much in Tuesday’s practice and may not play on Wednesday night. Early
NCAA Basketball betting has the public taking North Carolina at Home.
Bet on NCAA Basketball: Duke Blue Devils vs North Carolina Tar Heels
If Lawson can’t play it would be a major loss for North Carolina because they don’t have their normal depth at guard. Reserve Bobby Fraso is already out for the year. Quentin Thomas and Marcus Ginyard will probably see playing time in place of Lawson. “For me personally, it’s being ready for anything,” said Thomas, “And whenever my time is to go out there for the game, I just have to be prepared. … Whether it’s 36 minutes or 2 minutes, I just need to do what it takes.”
Wednesday’s game could be a track meet. The North Carolina Tar Heels rank second nationally in scoring at 91 points per game, while the Duke Blue Devils ranks third at 85.7. The edge for North Carolina is upfront with All-American Tyler Hansbrough and sophomores Deon Thompson and Alex Stepheson. Duke will try and counter with their quickness and pressure.
The game also marks the return of ESPN announcer Dick Vitale who has missed the start of the season due to throat surgery.
Here are the NCAA Basketball betting stats for Wednesday’s game. The Blue Devils are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Blue Devils are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. the ACC. The Blue Devils are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 Wednesday games. The underdog is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings between the two teams. The Blue Devils are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings at North Carolina.
The Tar Heels are 25-7 ATS in their last 32 home games. The Tar Heels are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Wednesday games.
The Over is 5-0 in the Blue Devils last 5 overall. The Over is 29-11 in the Blue Devils last 40 vs. the ACC. The Over is 6-2 in the Tar Heels last 8 vs. the ACC. The Over is 10-4 in the Tar Heels last 14 overall. The Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between the two teams and the Over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in North Carolina.

Pau Gasol is expected to make his
Los Angeles Lakers debut Tuesday when Los Angeles plays at New Jersey. It is the fourth game of a season-high nine-game road trip for the Lakers. Los Angeles got Gasol from the
Memphis Grizzlies on Friday and gave up nothing. They unloaded center Kwame Brown and rookie guard Javaris Crittenton in the deal. Gasol did not play on Sunday at Washington as head coach Phil Jackson chose to rest him. It didn’t matter as the Lakers won 103-91. Early NBA betting has the public taking Lakers on the Road.
Bet on NBA Basketball: Los Angeles Lakers vs New Jersey Nets
Gasol is averaging 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He should give Kobe Bryant some support and make the Lakers a serious threat in the Western Conference. “The pressure of winning and being one of the favorites, I think, is what you want to be involved in,” Gasol said, “That’s the kind of pressure I’ve been missing being in the NBA. I love that.” The Lakers are really expected to shine when Andrew Bynum returns from injury but that will not be for at least another six weeks. The Lakers are 5-5 without him and are 2-1 on their current road trip. The Lakers lost to New Jersey 102-100 earlier this season at Los Angeles as Richard Jefferson had 27 points for the Nets.
The New Jersey Nets are coming off a 104-02 loss at Atlanta on Saturday. “It was our lack of effort that caused us to lose tonight,” said Nets guard Vince Carter, “When you allow a team to score 50-plus points in the paint, it’s going to be difficult to win.”
Here are the
NBA betting stats for Tuesday’s game. The Lakers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 Tuesday games. The Lakers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Lakers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. the Eastern Conference.
The Lakers are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 road games. The Lakers are 5-1-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in New Jersey and the road team is 7-1-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings between the two teams.
