Meanwhile, Dinara Safina continued her fairy-tale French Open by defeating fellow Russian No. 4 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets during their semifinal match. Dinara Safina was also responsible for ousting No. 1 seed Maria Sharapova in the fourth round, and also dethroning Maria Sharapova as the World’s No. 1 women’s tennis player. Instead, Ana Ivanovic will be ranked as the new World No. 1 in women’s tennis, considering that Ana Ivanovic bested Jelena Jankovic, who was hoping to gain the world no. 1 title had Jelena Jankovic won against Ana Ivanovic.
