2008 French Open No. 2 seed
Ana Ivanovic of Serbia will be facing No. 13 seed
Dinara Safina of Russia in the finals of the 2008 French Open Women’s Singles tournament.
Ana Ivanovic beat outNo.3 seed fellow Serbian Jelena Jankovic 2 sets to 1 in the 2008 French Open Semifinals in order to advance to the finals. Meanwhile, Dinara Safina continued her fairy-tale French Open by defeating fellow Russian No. 4 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets during their semifinal match. Dinara Safina was also responsible for ousting No. 1 seed Maria Sharapova in the fourth round, and also dethroning Maria Sharapova as the World’s No. 1 women’s tennis player. Instead, Ana Ivanovic will be ranked as the new World No. 1 in women’s tennis, considering that Ana Ivanovic bested Jelena Jankovic, who was hoping to gain the world no. 1 title had Jelena Jankovic won against Ana Ivanovic.
Ana Ivanovic is a strong favorite to win against Dinara Safina in the 2008 French Open Women’s Singles Finals, but of course, Dinara Safina will be bringing her best tennis game on center court against Ana Ivanovic - the same game that saw Dinara Safina upset the likes of Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
