KIMBO! KIMBO! KIMBO!

Miami natives cheered for home-town favorite Kimbo Slice to defeat UFC veteran Tank Abbott when the two competed against each other in Elitce XC Street Certified, a mixed martial arts event, just recently held at the University of Miami.

Kimbo Slice, a famed Miami street fighter-turned-mixed martial arts competitor, defeated Tank Abbott by knockout in the first round at EliteXC Street Certified on Saturday in front of a sold-out audience at BankUnited Center at the University of Miami.

With no kicks and no takedowns, it was a quick slugfest between two brawlers.

Kimbo Slice used a left-left-right combination to put Tank Abbott on the ground the first time. Referee Troy Waugh warned Kimbo Slice for striking Tank Abbott on the back of the head on the ground, momentarily stopping the action.

With both men on their feet, Kimbo Slice threw an uppercut and a straight right to send Tank Abbott down again. Slice caught Abbott again before a final hard right to the jaw ended the action 43 seconds into the first round.

Kimbo, who made a name for himself on the Internet as a top bare-knuckle street fighter from the Pinecrest area of Miami, made the transition to mixed martial arts in November.

Trained by retired MMA fighter Bas Rutten, the 6-2, 234-pound Slice scored a 19-second, first-round knockout in his street-to-Elite debut against Bo Cantrell.

Slice, 34, real name Kevin Ferguson, a Miami Palmetto High School grad, improved to 2-0 in MMA. Abbott is 9-14.

Abbott, 42, an octagon veteran who also had some success in the scripted world of pro wrestling, resembles more of an aggressive street fighting style.

Abbott entered to a chorus of boos. Slice followed to a thunderous roar in front of the hometown crowd.

Sports celebrities in attendance included Udonis Haslem, Bernie Kosar, Jason Taylor, Herschel Walker, Jason Williams and Dorell Wright.
